I just heard on the radio about a new magazine called Muslim Girl that’s throwing its hat into the teen girl publishing ring, busting stereotypes about Muslims and Muslim femininity especially, as well as providing support and visiblity for gals in the Muslim community. I haven’t had an in-depth look at it yet, but it seems like a pretty rad endeavour. Any readers out there who’d care to comment?

I was looking at this mag the other day after DB Scott posted on it on the Canadian Magazines Blog (canadianmags.blogspot.com) Interestingly enough its actually a Toronto based magazine aimed at the US market:
"One of Muslim Girl's gimmicks is that it solicits its readers to be its cover subjects. Wardah Chaudhary, a 16-year old Muslim girl from Tulsa, Oklahoma, was the magazine's first cover girl. Those interested to become the cover girl of the magazine`s upcoming issues can log on to the magazine`s website ."
The magazine currently is at 25,000 copies and aims to get up to 100,000 - with plans to distribute in Ontario in the future. So, watch your newstands.
