I’ve never been a big fan of television ads for products made for women’s “issues” (check out this truly offensive Vagisil spot.) Well, despite the fact that taking a pregnancy test is never really a funny experience in the moment, I have to say I really appreciate this ad that I caught on television tonight:

This is a spoof on all the "next generation" razor ads, right?

I really want someone to manufacture pregnancy tests that come in two varieties - one for women who want to be pregnant and one for women who don't. So when you take the test it will either read "Congratulations! Many happy returns!" or else "Phew, way to dodge that bullet!"

Great idea, but what would it say if it's not the answer you're hoping for?

Maybe the Magic 8 Ball people and the pregnancy test people could get together and create some sort of magnificent hybrid.
I saw this ad on TV for the first time a few weeks ago and I laughed out loud. I did like the way that it's a product for women, AND it's also funny and weird. Too few ads that are targeted at women use clever humour (sometimes they're funny in a "us girls just wanna have fun! bring on the cocktails and pant-tease!" ie aren't actually funny at all). Why do the boys get all the fun?

Here's what I like about this ad: it's playing with imagery that is stereotypically associated with boys — the thing is shot like it's a Star Wars spaceship, and then the type at the end is in an old computer-y font. Geeky girls get laid, too!
