Spirit is Canada’s leading Aboriginal magazine, featuring cutting edge material from the Native community across the country.
This current publication is their very first SEX issue and I am so darn excited and happy that it exists. The beautiful young woman you see on the cover is none other than Métis burlesque extraordinaire Veronika Swartz, photographed by the Über talented Ojibwe photographer Nadya Kwandibens.
Within these pages you will read some of the most progressive and provocative literary masterpieces as they pertain to sex and sexuality. The sweet essence of breaking down social taboos will linger in your mind as you are drawn into the demystifying truths of how beautiful and sacred sex really is in the Indigenous world. What remains is pride and ownership over our own bodies (a concept we actually started!)
It moves me to tears to know that we are taking back what has been exploited so harshly from us and letting it out now on our own terms. And it’s a pretty powerful thing.
Exposed and in control? I want to be too!

Wow, that looks amazing, esp the part about "taking back what has been exploited". Thanks for letting us know about it Jessica!

Shameless?
Please, much love here--you know I've loved you guys from the moment I found you because I thought you were such good, critical, understandable writers against all types of anti-essentialism...
...but I've noticed over the past few times that I've logged into my feed reader and tried to catch up that the blog posts on this site don't really feel like they used to.
They feel less like blog.shrub.com and more like www.feministing.com
:-( :-( :-( :-( :-(
I know reversing that is a big overhaul...but what do you think about the notion of trying to do so?

Oh, crap. I didn't know the author of this post writes for Feministing.com
I just want to let you know, Jessica, that pulling that web site out of my head as an example of the type of subject I see filling Shamelessmag.com over the last months/almost-a-year was a coincidence and is not meant to be a dig at you!

Hi Katie,
We welcome constructive criticism, so thanks for sharing your thoughts.
However I would argue that this post specifically shows that we are different from FEMINISTING.com and are pretty proud of it.
Any ideas of stuff you woud like to see let us know, you can e-mail the blog at blogtips@shamelessmag.com

Hey Jessica, Do you have more info on Veronika Swartz? I've been hunting the internet and can't find a thing on her. As a burlesque fan, I'd love to know more.

The fabulous Veronika dances with the Shameless Dames Troupe here in Toronto, "Priscilla Pussycat" is her stage name.
How fitting that she dances with Shameless....it's meant to be! =)

Sekoh Nadya,
So happy to read your comments and you are more than welcome, we are so proud of the incredible work you are doing in our community!
Cecelia is a sister from the US so I'm mailing her a copy, and I have seen SPIRIT in Chapters, albeit in the back of the stands, but I have both spoken to management/put it in the front myself about that!
