I laughed at Unrepentant Old Hippie's reaction to being purged from the category:

We are becoming professionalized, feminists - apparently only women's studies graduates have the expertise to know true feminism! Most Women and Gender Studies programs in North America are characterized by a heavy reliance on liberal white feminism, which doesn't bode well for women making their own choices about self-determination - self-determination being a path to feminism that Jessica has suggested in a recent blog post!
While I applaud the institutionalization of women's studies, I also boo. It's easy to do at the same time!

Yah women's studies is like every other program or institution in that way. It's great that it exists but it's definitely not immune to problems of power and authenticity. I think it's almost laughable when people assume it is, or when it comes out that it's not it's looked at as some big conspiracy.
I haven't been following online awards or read too many blogs. I did come across this from another site (thanks to you piKe) http://www.acreativerevolution.ca/nod...
Apparently Unrepentant Old Hippie was runner up for the Canadian F-word's Best Feminist Blog, interesting!!
I do understand why the Canadian Blog Awards would need to pick someone to help them out with the category in light of what Damit Janet posted.

I'm just confused as to HOW the Canadian Blog Awards could get it right. Someone ultimately has to decide what is feminist and what is not.
If they don't feel qualified themselves to pick, should they just not have a category? Personally, I think they should have a category but HOW could they go about getting it right?
