Let’s Talk Race: video contest!
Join the Conversation: make your own 5 minute video that discusses your experiences with racism.
Each video should be from 2-5 minutes long. In the vein of “Shadeism” and the “Stuff White People Say to PoC” videos, these videos should function as tools for racism awareness. We encourage you to create a video discussing your lived racialized experiences. It can be in any format: a rap, a song, a poem, a skit or even just you, one-on-one with the camera, talking about your experiences with racism.
Deadline for submissions is March 5th, 2012. Send your video/video links to firstname.lastname@example.org. The videos will be available for voting on March 7th, 2012.
Make sure you “LIKE” your favourite video before March 20th!
The video that earns the most likes will be announced on March 21st, 2012, International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and win $500!!!
Let’s talk because our histories are constantly erased.
Let’s talk about how racism isn’t talked about enough in Canada.
Let’s talk because whenever I talk about racism, I’m told that I’m being oversensitive, and that race is not an issue.
Let’s talk because 32% of racialized children in Ontario live in poverty.
Let’s talk because the high cost of university affects racialized people more.
Let’s talk because I’m sick of being tokenized as the Asian friend.
Let’s talk about racism because there has never been a national conversation about race.
Let’s talk about how I’m more likely to get stereotyped at work.
Let’s talk because I don’t see an accurate representation of me in the media.
Let’s talk because as women of colour, we’re constantly at risk for sexual harassment.
