The Forced Marriage Project at Agincourt Community Services Association is holding a series of Spoken Word workshops for young women. The aim of the “I do!” youth initiative is to get young women to speak up about relationship violence issues that mostly affect young women.
There will be seven workshops held on Thursdays starting October 25th, from 4 - 6pm at Dorset Park Community Hub, 1911 Kennedy Rd, Unit 105. After learning to write their own Spoken Word pieces on the subject, the participants will get a chance to perform at a Spoken Word event. The process will be filmed to create a documentary that will be completed in december and submitted to documentary festivals.
There will also be two filmscreenings held to further spread awareness about the issue of forced marriage in the GTA. For more information about the project and our previous workshops, check out our project blog at http://www.fmp-acsa.ca/project-blog/.
