Our Blogger a Guest Blogger

Fabulous Shameless Blogger Allison Martell is doing a guest blogging stint over at Feministe. From her first post, regarding her own blog:

…economics can be a lonely discipline for a woman, a feminist, really any sort of leftist. I wanted a place to chronicle my own intellectual development, and I also wanted to try to bridge the gap between the feminist and economic blogospheres.

Allison’s blog, Economic Woman, is definitely worth a read, so be sure to check it out!

Lazy Sunday, I wish.

I have to work today, busily recruiting new subscribers (only $10!) and donors (every little bit helps!) to the magazine so our upcoming issue (soon!) can get into the world without a hitch. Hanging out with my laptop, I can daydream about a lazy sunday. (For some reason, this video never gets old for me. Also, I kind of thought this was the hotness.)

If you like us (and you’re already a subscriber), please consider making a small donation to help support the work we do. Even something as small as $2, $5 or $10 will go a long way to helping us keep our fresh alternative to typical teen magazines going.

be gooder (than the other books)

Because she is apparently too modest to post about it herself, thought I should let you all know that Shameless blogger and publisher Stacey May Fowles has had her novel Be Good longlisted for a ReLit independent press literary award!

be gooder

Way to go, Stacey May! You can’t see it, but I’m doing the Arsenio Hall arm-thing right now and going WHOO WHOO WHOO!

Jessica Valenti in Toronto

Tonight Jessica Valenti, author of Full Frontal Feminism and He’s a Stud, She’s a Slut, did a reading at Camera Gallery in an event co-sponsored by Shameless and The Miss G Project for Equity in Education. What followed was a lively panel discussion on contemporary feminism and the issues facing young feminists today. Shameless was on hand to take some pictures and have too many glasses of red wine.

Antonia Zerbisias Gives Us a Nod

All these gung-ho third-wave feminists gladden the heart of an old second-waver like moi. That’s because, rather than run from the f-word while benefiting from the hard-won battles for equal rights, these women embrace it.”

-Antonia Zerbisias on Jessica Valenti, The Miss G Project for Equity in Education, Shameless magazine, and, well, you, in today’s Toronto Star.

Don’t forget to check out Jessica Valenti and the rest of the F-word panel tonight at Camera Gallery at 7:00!

All About Shameless, DIY
Put down your scissors and shrinky-dinks

Hello lovelies! I have had an oh so secret crush on Shameless for some time and it has been one of my personal goals to contribute to the incredible presence that it is.

For a while now I have been convinced that crafting, homework, and an overall sense of DIY has long been a place of feminist identity and resistance. Every week from now on I hope to present you with a crafty idea, a crafter, or a crafty place that is feminist! Feel free to knit along, sew along, or craft beside. Let the crafting begin!

Congratulations Michelle on Branding Miss G___!

Shameless Magazine would like to congratulate Michelle Miller on the launch of Branding Miss G__: Third Wave Feminists & The Media. Last week, as part of the book’s launch, Shameless Magazine was invited to be part of a panel discussion on contemporary feminism and the media, and took part in a lively discussion with The Miss G___ gals and members of the audience.

The fabulous members of The Miss G__ Project have been long-time friends and supporters of Shameless Magazine and it’s always fantastic to be involved in projects and events with them, to see them at conferences, and, well, just to party with them in general.

Congratulations Michelle! It’s a wonderful book and we suggest everyone check it out!

Open Book Toronto took some photos of the evening-check out more of them after the fold.
